Dr. Vani Bhushan BIOGRAPHY

Professor (Dr.) Vani Bhushan, Principal, Patna Law College, is currently a Professor of Law at the PG Department of Law, Patna University. He is a distinguished legal scholar, who earned his LL.D. (post-doctoral) degree from Chanakya National Law University, Patna, in 2022. Prior to this, he completed his Ph.D. in Law from Patna University in 2007. Dr. Bhushan’s academic acumen was evident early on, as he secured first position in his LL.M. program at the Faculty of Law, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, in 2004. He qualified for the UGC-NET in 2003. Dr. Bhushan excelled in his LL.B. (Hons.) program at the Faculty of Law, Lucknow University, Lucknow, where he graduated with first-class honours in 2002.

He marked the beginning of his illustrious academic journey as a Lecturer at Patna Law College and the Department of Law, Patna University, where he served from November 29, 2004, to February 29, 2008. Subsequently, he assumed the position of Principal at Jamshedpur Cooperative Law College, a constituent unit of Ranchi University, from March 1, 2008, to July 3, 2009. Following this, he continued to ascend in his career, serving as an Assistant Professor from July 4, 2009, until February 29, 2020, during which he significantly contributed to legal education and mentorship. 

Dr. Bhushan’s leadership qualities were further recognized as he took on the role of Head of the University Department of Law at Patna University and the ex-officio member in the Senate and Academic Council on two separate occasions: from December 29, 2009, to April 1, 2011, and from May 20, 2013, to May 31, 2016, His commitment to academia and institutional development led him to become an Associate Professor at the PG Department of Law, Patna University, where he served from November 29, 2020, to March 1, 2023. Notably, he also held the prestigious position of Dean of the Faculty of Law at Patna University from December 4, 2021, to December 3, 2023, further showcasing his administrative capabilities and dedication to institutional governance. He became a Professor of Law in March, 2023, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to the advancement of legal education. 

Through his multifaceted roles in academia, Professor Bhushan has made enduring contributions to legal scholarship, institution-building, and the development of future legal professionals. He serves as a member of the Post Graduate Research Council and Departmental Council at the Post Graduate Department of Law, Patna University, Patna. Additionally, he has contributed significantly to the governance and improvement of Patna Law College by serving on committees such as the Library Committee, Moot Court Committee, Seminar/Discussion Committee, Building Committee, Examination & Terminal Test Committee, and Anti-Ragging Committee. He also has his membership in the Editorial Board for the University Journal of Law, Patna University, and has actively participated in statutory matters as a member of the Statute Committee at Patna University. Furthermore, he has contributed to curriculum development and legal advisory matters by serving on the Boards of Courses and Studies of the Faculty of Law and the Legal Advisory Committee, and is also the part of the NAAC Cell and Equivalence Committee at Patna University. Notably, he has been elected as a Syndicate member representing the Teacher constituency, underscoring his recognition and leadership within the university. 

Professor Bhushan’s administrative experience underscores his service as the Hostel Superintendent of New Law Hostel at Patna Law College since August 27, 2009. Additionally, he held the position of Law Officer at Patna University from February 14, 2011, to May 2014, where he contributed to legal matters and institutional compliance. 

Professor Vani Bhushan possesses expertise in various fields of law, with specializations in Constitutional Law, Contract Law, IPR Law, and Environmental Law. His extensive research experience includes supervising over 50 dissertations at the LL.M level, and more than 10 Ph.D. thesis July 2013. He has successfully attended more than 38 national seminars, four international seminars, and two workshops and has contributed significantly as a resource person in more than 40 seminars, workshops, and conferences, showcasing his expertise and dedication to knowledge dissemination. He participated as a resource person in several UGCsponsored events, presided over a technical session and served as a resource person in national seminars addressing topics such as Dr. Ambedkar’s vision, environmental adjudication, and insolvency and bankruptcy code. Professor Bhushan’s engagement extended to international platforms, where he chaired a session at an international seminar focusing on the aspirations and challenges of new generation Dalits. He also delivered lectures on various legal topics at esteemed institutions such as Patna University, Banaras Hindu University, and Jiwaji University, among others. Furthermore, he convened workshops on Intellectual Property Rights and participated in panel discussions on parliamentary democracy in India. His diverse engagements highlight his commitment to scholarly exchange and academic enrichment across a wide spectrum of legal subjects and institutions.

 Professor Bhushan has contributed more than 45 research papers published in prestigious journals and edited books. In the realm of journal publications, Professor Bhushan’s research addresses pressing issues such as witness protection law, human trafficking, human rights, environmental regulation, consumer protection, and biotechnological inventions. His papers have appeared in esteemed journals such as the Bihar Bar Council Journal, Chhotanagpur Law Journal, Patna University Journal of Law, India International Journal of Juridical Sciences, and more. These publications reflect his deep engagement with legal topics spanning constitutional principles, intellectual property rights, medical ethics, access to justice, and environmental sustainability. His contributions also extend to edited books, where he has authored chapters on education among scheduled tribe children, the views of B.R. Ambedkar and the Constitution of India, capacity building of teachers for quality education, right to dissent, judicial process, and protection of geographical indications and heritage. These publications showcase his interdisciplinary approach and engagement with social, political, and philosophical dimensions of law.
